2006 Easter Media REVIEW | Greg Atkinson

It’s hard to believe, but we are one month out from Easter. Each year I like to review the new Easter media resources, as well as mention some cool ones that I’ve used in the past. What you are about to read is a master list of what is available to you and your church this year as you plan your Easter services. If you’re disappointed and would like more than a brief description and price, you need to read my supplemental Easter Ideas article – that’s where I give ideas and suggestions on how to use these resources.

There are a ton of new resources, so my list has grown quite a bit since last year’s review. The good news is now that WorshipHouse Media has launched, I can point you to ONE place, instead of giving you 20 links to have to search through.

HERE’S WHAT’S NEW THIS YEAR:

Angelhouse Media: Easter Egg (Contains 1 mini-movie and 5 motions -$40). The mini-movie, “Psalm 22” is my pick for most original video. Read on.
Digital Hotcakes: Worship Series VOL 9 - Holidays (20 loopable backgrounds - $50)
Highway Video: Easter 06 (Contains 2 mini-movies and 13 editable video clips - $55)
Flashlight Films: Apostle’s Creed (New video based on the Apostle’s Creed - $15)
Igniter Media: Easter V.1 (Contains a mini-movie, 6 motions and 11 stills -$25). The mini-movie is in my top 3.
Masuru’s Matchbox: Easter mini-movie for kids - $15.
Organic Videos: Organic Easter Motions (Various Easter countdowns, loops and motions – Each $12)

Digital Glass:Stations” (A mini-movie that visually walks through the stations of the cross - $15)
Highway Video: Easter 04 ($55), Easter 05 ($55), – each has a mini-movie, motion and 13 editables. I’ve seen a lot of churches use the “From the Tomb” motion (from Easter 04) as a background behind songs – pretty cool.
Flannelgraf: Easter (Over 150 /sitecontent/reviews/images of the last days of Christ's life on earth - $50) and Faces of Jesus (Over 150 unique /sitecontent/reviews/images + 75 variations -$50)

A CLOSER LOOK:

HERE’S MY TOP PICKS GREG’S TOP 3 NEW EASTER VIDEOS:

Rescue Me” by The Work of the People. I see a lot of videos. A LOT! This one reached out and grabbed me. I’ve seen it countless times and each times it stirs something in me. The song is amazing. The video is not only shot well, but is deep and can represent many things (classic Travis Reed). This video, like the one from Angelhouse, isn’t for everybody. It’s un-conventional and could leave some people scratching their head. I love it, and for it’s impact, have selected it as my #1 pick of the season.
Sunday’s Coming!” by Igniter Media Group. Based on the famous sermon “It’s Friday, but Sunday’s Coming!”, this video will stir the soul. Powerful narration from Dr. John Jefferson, whose voice reminds me of Martin Luther King, Jr. Rob Thomas is becoming a master at bringing 2D /sitecontent/reviews/images into a 3D world. The still visuals come to life and make a great service starter for Easter Sunday.
The Meaning of Easter” on-the-street interview by SermonVideos.com. In my workshops I talk about the power of on-the-street videos. This one illustrates my point that our churches need to be reminded of the world we live in and that not everyone sees things the way we do. This video would be great to set up a message on what Easter is really about.

VOLUMES:

Worship Series, Vol. 9: Holidays by Digital Hotcakes – great loops, great value. Check out the “Crown of Thorns” loop!
Easter Celebration by WorshipFilms – great loops, great value.

VALUE:

Easter Backgrounds by SimplyYouth (25 cool backgrounds for 8 bucks!)
73 Cross Backgrounds by Sarti Design (73 backgrounds for $20….that’s…well, you divide…..and carry the one…anyway – I know it’s a great deal)

ORIGINALITY:

Psalm 22” from Angelhouse Media’s Easter Egg – This is the most unique, original and cutting edge video I’ve seen in quite a while. Some will hate it. Some will love it. A lot of has a feel like from the movie “Sin City” – if you’ve seen it, you know what I’m talking about. Very creative. Well done Angelhouse!
Xtreme Sacrifice by Radiate Films – What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. I applaud Radiate for doing something very courageous and refreshing – offering stills and motions that call attention to Christ’s blood shed for us.

As I always point out, everything I’ve listed above are simply tools. The message is paramount. The death and resurrection of Christ is what we celebrate this Easter season. Keep telling the story!
